Down here in the Florida Keys is a product that is in every restaurant bathroom at the sink. It is a rich, beautifully scented Key Lime salt scrub that is amazing! Now if you use it like I do….on your elbows, legs, feet and hands, it gets pretty expensive. So my thought is to make my own! You can tailor the oils and essential oils to fit your own needs. My favorite is Vanilla/lavender, but lime/vanilla is also wonderful! The salts can also be swapped out as well. Epsom salts offer a nice boost of magnesium, which is easily absorbed through the skin, but Himalayan sea salt, Dead Sea salt, or even kosher salt all work well. Sugar is also a great alternative (note that sugar is not as exfoliating). Experiment and try your own.
Vanilla and Lavender Salt Scrub
- 2 cups epsom salt
- 1 1/2 cups melted coconut oil
- 1/2 cup grape seed, olive, or sweet almond oil
- 25 drops lavender essential oil
- 25 drops vanilla essential oil
Stir the salt, oils and essential oils together in a large, non-reactive bowl (glass or metal – not plastic) until thoroughly combined. Pour into a clean, glass, container with a tight-fitting lid.
Stir with fingers or wooden spoon before using. Massage into area to be cleaned and rinse with warm water.
You will be amazed at how soft, clean, and sweet-smelling this will leave your skin! I keep a jar of this beside my shower and use it at least every other day on my elbows, legs and feet. Love it! Hope you will as well.
