Happy Valentine's DayWhat do you do for Valentine’s Day?  I always felt like it was a manufactured holiday, and yet would feel stressed about it.  If I was single, it became a day of self-bashing.   And if I was in a relationship, the day challenged me to make a “romantic and memorable” event.  Why?

How much did I miss.  It took me awhile, but I discovered that being without a “plus one” meant that I could treatMaggie and Zoey in a hamper myself to a mani/pedi, shop for yummy new pajamas (fleecy, fuzzy, and warm!), indulge in a chick flick DVD, eating takeout of my choice, and snuggling with my pups.  And really?  Who could not adore these little faces?

And now being in a happy relationship, romance has taken on a very different meaning for me.  I think it is romantic when my guy knows how I like my coffee in the morning (stevia and cream, please), or when he covers me with the shawl when I fall asleep on the sofa.  And it is a HUGE turn on when he whips up my favorite cocktail perfectly every time and serves it to me with a smile.  Swoon!  And the best part?  It happens all year round – not just on February 14th.  Nice.

So in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I suggest my version of my fav libation:  a blood orange cosmopolitan.  Yes, yes, I know that it has become a bit of a 90’s cliché, but I love them!  And honestly, it is the perfect V-day cocktail – cool, sweet, red, and delicious.  So whether you are having a hedonistic evening at home with your sweetie or pampering yourself, channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw and give this one a whirl.

Blood Orange Cosmopolitan

Serves 1Alcohol Cosmopolitan Cocktail In Glass

1 ounce vodka

1/2 ounce Vanilla vodka (this smooths out the flavor and is amazing!)

1 ounce blood orange juice

1/2 ounce Triple Sec

1/2 ounce lime juice (I like key lime juice)

Pour all into an ice-filled shaker and shake it hard.  Pour into your favorite martini glass and garnish with a slice of lime, or a blood orange slice.

I think you will agree…..it tastes like…..more!  Enjoy!
